A Program of Medical Weight Loss
Weighing in on a national epidemic
Obesity is an alarming epidemic throughout the United States. Many adults and children in America are addicted to food: Ninety percent of the time we eat we aren't even hungry.
Then why do we eat? More often than not, it's because this is a behavior we've developed when we were young and continued in adulthood. It can be used to deal with something, a feeling, loss, fear, etc.
If you've tried dieting to lose weight and have been unsuccessful in keeping it off (often gaining more weight than before dieting), you're like the 65 percent of American adults and one-quarter of American children. And Americans are less physically active today than ever before. The result: too much caloric intake with less output.
But, you can lose weight and keep it off, with or without having gastric bypass surgery. At the Weight Management Center, we offer patients both medical and surgical weight loss options that are valuable for long-term weight management.
Since obesity is a disease, it needs to be treated medically. The key to losing weight safely and keeping it off is recognizing why we eat and changing this behavior. This doesn't happen over night: it takes at least three months to recognize an eating problem and one year to change this habit we've repeated for many years.
There's no "magic pill" for overcoming excessive weight problems. Even surgery isn't a fool-proof cure; it's one tool, but must be accompanied by behavioral change to maintain weight loss.
If you're ready to make a commitment to losing weight and improving your health, medical weight loss may be right for you. Make the first move: contact the Weight Management Center at Lehigh Valley Hospital and Health Network to to learn how to take the first step to becoming
